Green Hydrogen Seminar
Scotland’s leading role in Green Hydrogen
Green hydrogen is set to play a critical role in our clean energy future by helping to create a more flexible, resilient and integrated energy system.
Both governments have shown strong support for the technology. The Scottish Government has set an ambitious target of producing 5GW of green hydrogen by 2030, while the UK Government has set a similar target reaffirming the need for at least 5GW by 2035. With abundant renewable energy resources – particularly offshore wind, but also wave, tidal and onshore wind – along with vast engineering skills and an established supply chain, Scotland is well positioned to become a leader in green hydrogen. This expertise can be shared not only around the UK but across the globe. However, a strategic vision for green hydrogen coordinated across Scotland and the UK is needed to support certainty around its role in our future energy system.
Now is the time to seize the opportunities green hydrogen has to offer, such as decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors and enabling a net-zero energy system. However, significant barriers will need to be addressed to realise these benefits.
Scottish Renewables’ Green Hydrogen Seminar will gather industry leaders, government and stakeholders to address one of the key challenges facing hydrogen deployment: demand.
