Circular Economy: Lead EU lawmaker cuts takeaway reuse targets from draft packaging waste law
The draft itself removes several packaging reuse targets put forward by the European Commission, including 20% of takeaway drink sales to be in reusable or refillable packaging by 2030, with an increase to 80% by 2040. In her justification for removing these targets, Ries explained that the environmental benefits of reuse in the food sector are difficult to prove and are not addressed in the Commission’s impact assessment.
